There are several real estate companies that offer “home warranties” on used / existing houses. This photo was taken to demonstrate the fact that these “warranties” fail to fully protect the soon to be home owner. That valve to the left of the warranty pamphlet is a pressure / temperature relief valve connected to the gas fired water heater tank underneath. That valve is designed to open up and release water from the tank if the temperature of the water in the tank exceeds 210 degrees F or if the pressure in the tank exceeds 150 PSI. There is suppose to be a pipe connected to this valve that terminates around 6 inches above the floor. This is to direct any release safely down to the floor. With the lack of a discharge pipe, there is a potential hazard of someone being scalded if the valve opened up.
