PHOTO OF THE MONTH: April 03

The photo below taken at a home near Ft. Lauderdale, FL shows an electric door opener for a garage. Newer models are equipped a photo eye safety feature that would cause the garage door to stop and reverse if something (like a child, pet or vehicle) blocked the infra-red beam between two sensors. These sensors (which look like small cameras) are supposed to be placed 4 to 6 inches above the garage floor opposite each and a few inches inside of the door opening. The two sensors in the photo were installed above the door opener itself, defeating this safety feature. A photo showing the correct placement of these sensors is shown below this one.
