Electrical circuit splices are supposed to be in metal
enclosures with metal covers in order to contain a fire caused by a
fault / short circuit. The circuits are also supposed to have
strain relief connectors so that the circuits can not be pulled out
from the box. It looks like this enclosure found in a Buffalo, NY
suburb home failed on both those points.
